| PAKT
is an initiative to
provide different activities for the whole family as well as
for children and parents separately. It
provides mainly children’s activities, which are held
once a week in the afternoons for 90 Min. each.
Children
get a choice of what activity they would like to partake in.
Activities which have run in the past include:
- Arts
& Crafts
- Travel
around the World (interesting and fun activities from all
over the world)
- Team
Challenge
- Drama
- Cookery
PAKT
also offers activities for the whole family. such as outings,
quizzes, treasure trails and Easter egg hunts. These have proven
to be the highlights of the PAKT term and are enjoyed by the
whole family.
Parents are also catered for with a parents programme where
training is provided in areas of interest e.g. computer training,
First Aid.
Some
key elements of PAKT
projects:
- PAKT
is a family led Initiative. It concentrates on relationships
between parents and children in the family unit. We call this Family Youth Work.
- PAKT
tries to focus on all aspects of each person involved — physical, spiritual,
social and intellectual.
- PAKT
operates from a Christian ethos and welcomes people from all
backgrounds.
- In
PAKT children get to experience new skills as well as develop
those that they knew they had.
- PAKT
believes that the learning that takes place in the age group
it focuses on (6 - 12 years) plays a very important part in
the development of the child into adolescence and adulthood.
- PAKT projects aim to be affordable to everyone. Therefore
the costs are kept to an absolute minimum.
- PAKT
is one of many programmes run by the YMCA for children and young people in West Cork. The YMCA offers
support, training, overall co-ordination as well as quality
control for those who work within PAKT.
