| What
is STEP?
STEP is a full-time,
19 week training course for young people who, for whatever reason,
have not been able to get a Leaving Certificate and/or have
not been able to get into the kind of employment they want.
We believe young people who want a second chance should get
it.

Who
is it for?
STEP is for young
people who are aged between 18 and 25 and who are unemployed.
Preference is given to those without a Leaving Certificate.
What
does it cost?
Nothing!
In fact, STEP trainees can receive a training allowance comparable
to what would normally be received on Unemployment Assistance.
Trainees on Lone Parents or disability benefits can continue
to receive them, and get a training allowance in addition.
What
will I learn?
Computer
skills: Most trainees leave STEP with an ECDL (European
Computer Drivers Licence), which is widely recognised and sought
after by employers.
World
of Work: Job-finding skills; skills for the workplace.
Work
Experience: Four weeks of work experience with a local
employer, leading to a FETAC Work Experience Level 2 award.
Communication
skills: Building confidence in presenting ideas to others;
writing and reading. These skills are much sought after by employers
and it is a core requirement for further education. Trainees
can gain a FETAC Communications Level 2 award.
Personal,
Social and Health: This module helps trainees to, for example, become
more self-aware, to take charge of their future and improve
their relationships.
Information
skills: Trainees learn skills for finding for themselves
the information they need to improve their future.
Y-Share
Our World: Are Irish people prejudiced against Refugees
and Asylum Seekers? We will look at the issues together. Trainees
can achieve a Y-Care International Certificate.
Other
skills: Depending on what trainees want, other training
such as First Aid can be organised. |
